VOLUNTEER PROJECT RESOURCES
Through our ongoing work with volunteer groups we have developed a number of useful resources for different activities. Please feel free to download and use these resources for your own archaeology projects.
TEST PIT SHEET
Test-pitting is a fantastic way for a local community to engage with their own archaeology and heritage. It allows a map to be built up of an area through the small finds that come from different depths of small 1-metre square trenches. This is the guide and record sheet for a single test pit used most recently on the Roads to the Past project.
SURVEY SHEET
Identifying and explaining the often confusing earthwork remains across a large site is often the first step in a project, particularly in woodland or upland archaeology. This sheet provides prompts for a record of each individual feature when undertaking volunteer walkover survey. It was most recently used as part of our Bow and Lea Wood project in Derbyshire’s Derwent Valley.
