Our Farm Heritage is one of the strands of the Upper Nidderdale Landscape Partnership. It has been based on extensive volunteer-led survey of farm holdings across Upper Nidderdale, identifying hundreds of previously unrecorded archaeological features. As part of this, Solstice have run on-site training sessions in landscape survey and classroom sessions on using open-source GIS for archaeology.

Following survey work, Solstice have led volunteer excavations on five separate presumed prehistoric sites in partnership with the the UNLP and Iron Age (Nidderdale) – a local archaeology group. These excavations have cast significant new light on our understanding of how ‘native’ people lived and farmed in the northern uplands.
